How To Make Mexican Hot Mocha (Aka. The Spicy Brew)?
2 min readOct 17, 2023
Coffee, chocolate, and cinnamon are always a perfect match, but what if you add some chili powder?
Chilli in coffee! Crazy, right!
I will be honest here, I was in pure shock when I first heard of this recipe, but its taste has completely won my heart. I’m no more against mixing sweet and spicy.
Don’t believe me; try it out yourself. Here is your recipe:
Equipment
- Pour-over coffee maker (any pot that has a hole in the bottom where you could set the filter paper cone would work)
- Filter paper/cone
Ingredients
- ¾ cup of steaming hot water
- 14–18 grams of coffee grounds
- 2 tablespoons of cocoa powder
- 1 tablespoon of chocolate syrup
- ½ teaspoon cinnamon powder
- ¼ teaspoon Mexican chili powder
- 2 ½ tablespoons powdered sugar
- ¼ cup of whole milk
- ¼ teaspoon cardamom powder (optional, but it makes the taste even richer)
- Whipping cream for garnish (optional)
Directions
- Add powdered sugar, cocoa powder, and spices (cinnamon, chili, and cardamom powder) to the bottom beaker of the coffee maker.
- Set the filter paper in the upper sieved pot and put coffee grounds on it.
- Pour over the hot water slowly and wait until all of it trickles down into the spices pot.
- Add chocolate syrup and milk to the filtrate and stir to mix all the rich flavors.
- Garnish with whipping cream and cinnamon powder, and serve.

Notes:
You can also use 1 espresso serving instead of the pour-over method. Just mix the espresso shot with spices, sugar, and chocolate syrup, and your delicious drink is ready.
